Juventus v Fiorentina (Serie A)

Published on April 20, 2019 by

Last week, a defeat at SPAL put the Juventus Scudetto party on hold. After that, in the middle of the week, Juventus were eliminated by Ajax from the European stage. Juventus certainly don’t want to be disappointed again.

The championship leader Juventus will host 10th place at Fiorentina at the Allianz Stadium in Serie A 2018/19 giornata 33 on Saturday (20/4). The Bianconeri need one point to seal their eighth consecutive Scudetto, but the Viola will try to ruin the rival’s party.

Fiorentina has just changed coach. Stefano Pioli has resigned, and Vincenzo Montella is believed to be a substitute. Montella, who previously coached Fiorentina in the 2012-2015 period, returned to the Artemio Franchi.

But Montella failed to start his second period at Fiorentina with victory. Fiorentina only drew 0-0 to host Bologna on Montello’s debut the previous week. With that result, it means Fiorentina are winless in their last eight matches in Serie A.

Fiorentina have only won twice in their last 15 matches in Serie A (M2 S9 K4). For a team whose squad is inhabited by talented players like Giovanni Simeone to Federico Chiesa, that performance is clearly very disappointing.

Against the injured Juventus and looking for an outlet, and no longer willing to waste the opportunity to lock up the league title, Fiorentina were less favored.

Juventus will not go down with the best starting XI. Mario Mandzukic, Paulo Dybala, Giorgio Chiellini and Douglas Costa could miss Fiorentina. But Juventus are believed to still have enough strength to tame Fiorentina.

Cristiano Ronaldo, who scored two goals in two legs against Ajax in the Champions League quarter-finals but failed to help Juventus qualify for the semifinals, will return to being the main focus in attack. Juventus top scorer will be supported by Juan Cuadrado and Federico Bernardeschi, who incidentally are two former Fiorentina players.

At the first meeting of the season, Juventus hit Fiorentina 3-0 at the Artemio Franchi. Juventus won through Ronaldo’s penalty and Rodrigo Bentancur and Chiellini’s goals. In Turin later, Juventus are very seeded to regain three points.
