Manchester United will face Barcelona in the Champions League quarter-final first leg at Old Trafford on Wednesday (04/10/2019). MU will be wary of Lionel Messi who often becomes a threat.

The Barcelona captain never stopped showing magic. In this season, Messi has gotten 43 goals from 40 matches in all competitions with Barca.

Latest, La Pulga contributed one goal while bringing the Catalan squad to a 2-0 win over Atletico Madrid, in the match of Week 31 of the Spanish La Liga at Camp Nou, Saturday (04/06/2019).

With this incision, Lionel Messi is believed to be a scourge for Manchester United’s goal. Moreover, Messi has also thwarted MU’s ambitions to win the Champions League twice, namely the 2008-2009 and 2010-2011 seasons.

In the final of the 2008-2009 season, Lionel Messi managed to score one goal while bringing the Blaugrana to win 2-0. Meanwhile, in the peak season of 2010-2011 he also netted one goal and Barca won 3-1.

Even so, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said his team would not only be wary of Lionel Messi. For him, Barcelona has many quality players besides Messi.

“What kind of plan can you have to stop one of the best players in the world? It’s not just like Messi against Manchester United,” Solskjaer said.

“(Luis) Suarez, (Philippe) Coutinho, (Ivan) Rakitic, (Arturo) Vidal there are so many good players (for Barcelona). We must not only focus on one player. We know we must play against 11 Barcelona players,” he continued .

The performance of the two teams in the last few games is also quite different. Manchester United won two wins and swallowed three defeats in the previous five matches in all competitions.

On the other hand, Barcelona are in the best performance because they have not lost from the last six games. They successfully grabbed five wins and one draw.

Armed with these statistics, Barca are more favored to achieve good results. The victory will keep the Catalan squad in order to qualify for the Champions League semifinals this season.

Especially at the second meeting, it was Barcelona’s turn to host the Red Devils squad at Camp Nou on April 16, 2019.

“We are in conditions like now, this is a good moment for us. We are in a good moment because we have been waiting for this moment in the Champions League, since the win over Lyon in the last 16,” said Barcelona coach Ernesto Valverde.

“Now we hope to face Manchester United at this incredible stadium. We know that in good condition, but also we have to play well in both matches (against MU),” he explained.
